Staff was nice and friendly but I was discharged still in severe withdrawal. Very AA, "admit you are an alcoholic or parish". Instead of education on what addiction is, it's all motivation for AA which is highly ineffective. The DSM has alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder, which are seemingly unknown to staff.

I came here in the summer of 2021 and didn't know what to expect as it was my first time in a rehab. The entire staff and even the cleaning crew had given me good vibes and messages of hope during my stay here at a time when I felt so lost. It is a clean, organized facility w/a structured environment that sticks to a daily schedule. I bonded with the other patients during my stay in detox and residential units. We had guest speakers whom are former addicts and patients from Fairbanks come in share their stories of recovery with us. Emotionally it was a rollercoaster but one I won't ever forget. Detox and res unit have 2 beds per room. They provide hospital scrubs and socks if you need extra clothes, all toiletries (shaver, mouthwash, shampoo etc) nurses station you can go to throughout the day to get your prescribed meds along with aspirin or whatever you may need. Cafeteria has great food and sandwiches were handed out after hours around 9pm along with snacks in break or res rooms(in other words you won't go hungry). Smoking allowed (no vapes) the counselors are great although they were understaffed while I was there (their words not mine) and I got a sense they had a lot on their plate at times in group. This however did not diminish the care I received. PHP and IOP counselors were great too but I was pretty burned out on groups after being in the program for several weeks at that point. I saved all the paperwork and group exercise worksheets we received and still read them from time to time. ==Fairbanks SLP== Their SLP program is a bit pricey ($800/month for a 2 bedroom with 4 people) although the apartments are nice and located close to the Fairbanks facility in Castleton. At times it got VERY cramped with 4 people in the apartment and the 5 mandatory meetings per week while trying to do php was overwhelming. I couldn't afford rent and left after a couple months. Fairbanks kept me sober for as long as I worked their program.. so they may see me return soon - Travis
